1. I am too busy/young/ old/ injured to try yoga
Earl Nightingale, a great author from the 1950’s said, “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.” If you always wanted to try yoga you should never let imaginary barriers hold you back from your dreams. You are never too old or too young to try yoga. As we grow older our bodies may experience limitations, but through the use of props and the right teacher you will be able to find the perfect setting for you. In you have an injury, you should absolutely consult your doctor and recruit your health care providers to help find the right class for you.
2. I have never been flexible enough to try yoga
If I can’t do the splits, I thought to myself, how can I do yoga? I would soon learn that the entire purpose of yoga is to increase flexibility and try to maintain that flexibility to a ripe old age. To this day I am astounded by the progress my body continues to make and with each day I increase my flexibility a little more.
3. Yoga Studios intimidate me
The first time I tried yoga I was super intimidated. Literally every girl in the room looked like they walked out a Lululemon commercial and there I was, baggy sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. I definitely felt out of my comfort zone. Did I mention that every person in the room had the most incredible body I had ever seen and not a single hair out of place in their perfectly positioned ponytail?
I was convinced that the moment I started to maneuver into the first posture, the room would burst out in a chorus of laughter. As I braced myself for an impromptu comedy career, I was more than a little surprised not to hear any chuckling, not even a giggle. As the class started I looked around and realized that everyone was very focused on their own practice. As the class progressed I too became focused on positing my body and my breathing, as I transformed from downward dog to dolphin, this is fun I thought.
Over the years I would learn that the yoga community is the most wonderful, accepting and exceptional group of people I would ever meet. However, if your considering doing yoga for the first time, or for the first time in a long time, I can certainly empathize. You will be happy to learn that Dare to Dream Yoga was created with especially you in mind. Our free yoga classes are designed for all skill levels, and we especially love beginners.
